Book Review: Random Acts of Trust by Julia Kent

I have been spending so much time reading lately that I have been neglecting my blogging! I'm sure there are a few other things getting neglected lately too, like laundry and other stuff moms are supposed to do. I prefer to read than clean.

One of the authors I have been reading is Julia Kent! After reading ALL of her books (listed below) which were either free or I paid for, I contacted her and asked about becoming a part of her street team and Random Acts of Trust was just days from being released! So, I was sent an Advanced Review Copy free of charge to provide my honest opinion! To clarify I paid for all the other books, but Random Acts of Trust was a free review copy.

About the Author:

Julia Kent is a USA Today Bestselling author who writes contemporary romance. Think: semi erotic, romantic comedy usually with a twist and often with more than 2 love interests.

Julia Kent is like my long lost sister! In RAOC she mentions the Diva Cup. In It's Complicated, Laura briefly tackles breastfeeding issues including NIP (Nursing in Public). Complete Abandon talks about babywearing and mentions that Laura makes her own cloth diapers!!! All topics not usually in romance novels that are very close to my heart.

My Review:

My first experience with Julia Kent was Random Acts of Crazy (RAOC). In that book I feel in love with Darla and her brazen openness. We were taken through a journey that made all three main characters in that book grow both emotionally and socially. I have since read every other book written by Julia Kent!

Random Acts of Trust is not a continuation of that story. (Although it does happen after RAOC) Random Acts of Trust is a new story about the drummer from the band we met in RAOC and his struggle to recreate a love lost years ago and to come to terms with what it is to truly trust.

Growing up in a society that was made up of fake lives, decided futures and family secrets, Sam and Amy went to different high schools and were on the debate team. Senior year they found themselves battling each other to make it to Nationals. For Sam, the stakes were very high. His entire college career would be decided by the outcome and little did he know his family life would be too. After the debate Sam disappeared from Amy's life. Four and a half years later Sam and Amy rediscover each other and the secret to his disappearance is revealed.

When you are raised to tell half truths in order to cover up lies who can you trust? How do you learn to trust?

To be honest, The beginning moved a little slowly for me. It seemed a bit drawn out until about 20% into the book. But then we get hurled into a fantastic love story that made you root for them, laugh and cry and really want to get to know them on a deeper level.

We meet the whole band which includes Trevor and Joe from RAOC and their girl, Darla. They are a big part in this book as well as Liam, the fourth member of the band. Each character feels like someone you either know already or want to know! Ms. Kent has a way of doing that!

I have to mention that there is one part just past the halfway point that had me laughing so hard I was crying! My 3 year old kept asking me if I was OK... I don't want to spoil it so I will leave you with this: There was a urgent trip to visit a "Hoohaw" doctor and a misplaced cell phone.

Joking aside, I loved the overall story and found it very relatable. Afterall, who doesn't have a family secret? In this book you get:

Lies
Family secrets

Love

Lost love

Competition
Sex
Hysterical comedy

I would say you don't need to read one before the other really. If you haven't read RAOC it could be read after and it would just fill in the back story of Darla, Trevor and Joe and explain the Chicken jokes.

After the book we get a sneak peek at the next book starring Liam! The preview was awesome and I can't wait to read Liam's story!!!

I started reading again!! Reviews to come!

{This post contains an affiliate link to Amazon.com}
This may sound a little lame but... I missed reading! I used to read for pleasure all the time. A lady who works with me lent me a few books because I was complaining about not reading in a while. Well, one of the books just grabbed me!

The book she had me borrow first was Tempted by Megan Hart. This book is classified as erotic romance but is so much more! The way she told of the relationship between the main character and her sisters, mother and father just made you feel like you knew her all your life. Her husband was not the only relationship you knew, which is what I expected in a romance novel. I felt so connected to her (Anne) that I simply could not stop reading!

Normally in the morning my Other Half leaves around 5 am and I grab some coffee and surf the web, blog a little and enjoy some "me time" before the kids get up for the day. Instead I would get out the book and just read! When I wasn't reading the book I was thinking about reading it! I'm pretty sure that indicates some sort of addiction.

I don't want to give anything from the story away because I plan to do a full review of the book, as well as all of Megan Harts other erotic romance novels. Yes, I said ALL. I have read them all and there is another one coming out in August that I can't wait to read!

If erotic romance is not something you typically read then I suggest you read the upcoming reviews. I didn't think it was my cup of tea at first but, man was I wrong!

What Mommy Wants is becoming a KID FREE ZONE!

So, I would like to start by saying that this blog has opened many doors for me. I started this blog with the wrong intentions and it snowballed entirely too fast for me to keep up with. I am extremely grateful for the fans who have stuck it out with me! You guys made me a great success, very quickly.

In the beginning I wanted to have a "review blog". I was greedy and saw many blogs getting awesome products to review. I was entering giveaway after giveaway and realized I could do what they were doing! So I took the plunge and started What Mommy Wants. Originally meaning "products that Mommy wants". Well, after reviewing MANY products, Mommy realized she was getting behind on her actual Mommy duties! (Yes, I did just talk about myself in the third person.) I fell behind, disappointed sponsors and let down my readers. After taking some time to reflect (and have another baby) I have decided that What Mommy Wants means something entirely different to me than I had expected or even wanted.

What Mommy Wants now means "What Mommy Wants to do/have/be/share without the kids". If you want to know about what I'm doing with the kids, I blog about that at Teen Toddler Newborn. I started that for the child related stories, review, crafts etc.

I am not going anywhere and neither is this blog. The change will be with you, my readers! I am in the process of an overhaul of this blog and while some of you will love it, I understand that some of you will hate it. I expect a significant decrease in fans, readers, pageviews and a great drop in my stats.

Along this journey I failed to remember that I like writing! Of course the products I got to keep were awesome but the real reason I want to keep this blog going is because I like writing!

What Mommy Wants is becoming a KID FREE ZONE!

What you will NOT see on What Mommy Wants:
Baby product reviews
Kid product reviews
Bragging about my kids
Daily giveaways
Wordless Wednesdays
Breastfeeding information
Parenting tips
Picket Fence voting buttons

What you WILL see on What Mommy Wants:
Possible rants about my kids
Thoughtful posts and stories NOT gushing about my kids
Marriage stuff (tips, stories, reviews)
Occasional mature content
Occasional harsh language
Book reviews of the romantic genre
Occasional giveaways
Some sponsored posts (clearly marked)
Some affiliate links (clearly marked)
Environmentally friendly information

To sum it up, this blog is no longer the typical "Mommy Blog". The focus will be on actual writing, story telling, relationships etc, that I can't discuss around my kids. Basically, I don't have many grown up friends. I want to share grown up stuff and you guys will be my new friends. Do you accept my friendship?

Here is the part where I say this:
If you don't want to read foul language, see mature reviews or support my efforts to remain sane via some online venting please feel free to unsubscribe. I don't blame you and understand completely why some may be offended by the new content.

If you are up for it, put the kids to bed, get out your reading glasses and a glass of wine. Those who stick around will be rewarded with my humorous outlook on difficult situations and meaningful discussions about unimportant topics.

Time to start gardening! My tilted pot tower!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Miracle-Gro for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I have been inspired by Miracle-Gro to get out into the garden and have some fun! For inspirational projects to do or spark your creativity and start your own story visit The Gro Project on Facebook. If you need some motivation check out this video:

I had pinned this project quite some time ago and finally got around to doing it with the help of my kids and Husband!

What you need:

  • 2 - 8 inch clay pots
  • 4 - 6 inch clay pots
  • 1 - 5 foot metal rebar stake
  • Moisture Control Potting Mix
  • Any flowers you desire
  • (optional) paint and sealer

Put it together:

You may choose to paint your pots and seal them or leave them natural. If you paint them make  sure they are sealed for use outdoors. Make sure they are dry.

Pound the rebar stake into the ground about 1 foot deep.

Starting with an 8 inch pot, thread the rebar through the drainage hole in the pot until it sits on the ground. Fill with Potting Mix and your new flowers (Lobelia works great in our area and it looks like water is flowing over the sides of the pots)

The 4 pots will be the 6 inch pots. Thread through the drainage hole and when the pot reach the one below, use the soil to settle it in place staggered laft to right (or front to back). Fill pots with soil and flowers as you go making sure to leave room for the pot that will be on top of it.

The last pot on the top will be the other 8 inch pot. Fill it with more soil and flowers OR top it with a saucer for a bird bath! You may need to poun the rebar down some to make sure it is hidden beneath the soil.

The possiblilities are great with this one, get creative and show me what you come up with!

Exclusive Skin Care Sponsor For Spa Week Review

Exclusive skin care sponsor for Spa Week (April 15-21) this year is Beautify Skin Care!

Beautify Skin Care is a professional grade, all natural skin care line! Research has shown that skin responds better to natural ingredients than it does to synthetics. Taking this fact and the fact that 1 out of 3 women develop some form of skin cancer in their life, Beautify created a line of chemical free, natural skin care products!
You will not find any of these dangerous ingredients in their gorgeous jars:

  • Parabens
  • Mineral Oil
  • Dangerous Chemicals or Fillers
  • Synthetic Detergents (SLS/SLES)
  • Synthetic Perfumes
  • Artificial Colors
  • Polyethylane Glycol (PEG’s)
  • No Animal Testing
Stop putting dangerous chemicals on your skin!

I had the opportunity to test out one of their products. My face is smooth and supple thanks to the Age-Defy Moisturizer Creme. Age-Defy is specially formulated for younger skin. It protects and keeps skin looking youthful.

Benefits:
  • Age-Defy moisturizer utilizes the highest concentration of Vitamin A (Retinyl Palmitate, 20,000 I.U. per 100 grams), commonly referred to as the "Skin Vitamin" and best known for its cellular renewal properties to prevent and reduce the look of aging.
  • Provides the maximum benefits of Vitamin A (Retinol) without common side effects such as photosensitivity, redness and irritation.
  • Includes Acai: A Super-Fruit ranked as one of the best wrinkle fighting extracts on the planet.
  • Includes Green Tea, which is especially beneficial for sun or environmentally damaged skin. Daily application of this unique blend will leave the skin soft and supple.
  • Professional Grade: An abundant amount of the finest clinically-proven natural ingredients available in a Skin Care line, coupled with a higher potency. Helps younger skin defy the signs of aging. Gives you the same potency from the spa, at home.
  • Skin Tip: Also use Age-Defy Eye Treatment, DermaToner, DermaRadiance Mask and DermaScrub Microdermabrasion for even better, faster results!
What did I think?
This is amazing stuff ladies! From the gorgeous jar to the smooth application, you will be addicted! The creme has a fabulously clean and natural scent. Because there are no artificial perfumes its so delicate as well. Within 30 minutes of application I could feel a difference! That has never happened to me before! I live in Arizona where it is quite dry. In the winter months I get a flaky dryness near my hairline and eyebrows. Strange, I know. Last week I started to notice a dry patch in the middle of my forehead. It persisted for a couple of days until I got my Age-Defy. I put it on and it was gone... never to be seen again.

After a few days of using the Age-Defy I have smooth, moist and healthier looking skin. After having a baby and letting things like beauty slide a little, this is a great product and my favorite thing is that there are no chemicals in it!

Let me also say that a little goes a long way! This bottle is going to last a while. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a natural, safe and effective skin care line!

Disclosure: I received a sample as a Spa Week Blogger in the Hot Mom Squad to facilitate this review. All opinions are mine and yours may vary. I only provide reviews for product that I believe my readers will benefit from!

Do you watch The Taste: Tuesday at 8|7c on ABC?

I was just introduced to a show that you are going to love! You may have noticed that I like to share some of my recipes with you. I enjoy cooking and trying new things but even more than that I like a little competition! Combine the 2 and you have me hooked! Whats great is that you don't even have cable or satellite TV, it airs on ABC Tuesday nights.

Basically the contestants are divided into teams. Each team is mentored by a well known top chef. The individual chefs make a "spoon" and one spoon from each team is chosen to be tasted by the judges in a blind taste test! The winner gets immunity in the individual challenge!

In the individual challenge the mentors get to be the judges. They are, again, tasting blindly. They have no idea that they may be eliminating someone from their own team!

The judges have on spoonful to taste to choose a winner!

“The Taste” features no-holds barred chef Anthony Bourdain, British food star Nigella Lawson, expert chef and author Ludo Lefebvre and restaurateur Brian Malarkey. Each of the four culinary superstars and “Taste” mentors – Bourdain, Lawson, Lefebvre and Malarkey – will coach a team of four competing pro and amateur cooks chosen from a nationwide casting call as they vie to create the best tasting dish.

You can see the most recent episode and even catch up on the whole season so far like I am on HERE. Trust me, if you like cooking. eating or just good ol' competition, you should check this out! Put the kids to bed, grab a glass of wine and enjoy!

I made a video showing how to put it on for the back carry as well as how to wear it on the front. I used Amber's help for that part. Please feel free to subscribe to my youtube channel while you are there:

No nonsense tights and leggings is style made easy!

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of No nonsense for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

The weather around here is getting chilly! But that won't stop me from being stylishly pregnant this winter. I received a pair of No nonsense tights and a pair of No nonsense leggings to review. That means I can still wear some of my fall favorites with a little extra flare. Normally I love wearing my flowy light fabrics especially in the Arizona heat. But when the temps dip lower there is a need for more coverage.

The past few nights have been down to the freezing point, New Year's Eve was no exception. At midnight in my neighborhood it was 35 degrees! Simply adding my leggings to my wrap dress not only kept the chill off but made my whole outfit have the attitude to help celebrate the evening in style!

I also received a pair of No nonsense tights. I have to be honest and say that I have not worn tights since high school, which was more than a decade ago... So I was a little apprehensive. Being pregnant I did have to wear the waistband below my belly. I decided to pair them with a longer skirt and my favorite maternity top!

I really love the No nonsense tights and leggings I received! They feel awesome and are very comfortable. I love that they can be paired with just about any outfit to change up the style in a flash. As you can see both pairs I received were black which goes with anything! But I do need to get some of those awesome colors too!

Who is Jill Martin?

Jill Martin, Emmy Award-winning TV personality and co-author of the New York Times bestselling style guide “I Have Nothing to Wear!” Will be the new brand ambassador for No nonsense! Not only is she a style expert but she is also the New York Correspondent for Access Hollywood!

Jill will be showing women how to wear the latest trends which include colored tights! She will making video vignettes as well as tips on Twitter and even a contest on Facebook! Here is a bit of an intro of her videos:

No nonsense tights and leggings can easily be found at many food and drug stores as well as many larger retails stores! And of course they are one of the most affordable options for perking up any outfit!
